Step 5: Deleting Temp Files, Temporary Internet Files, & Cookies for Windows Vista
As you browse the internet, open, close, and install programs, files are stored
on your computer that clog up your system. Once you are done with them, the files are no
longer needed yet remain on your computer. Many errors are caused by the storage of these
junk files. I am going to walk you through the steps to delete these junk files from your
system.
One of the biggest search engine terms I see utilized are "can't see temporary internet files
and "can't find temp folder" and "cant see Local Settings." First I am going to walk you
through making sure all your necessary files and folders are available for viewing.
Open Windows Explorer to browse your computer. Go to "Start, Computer." Go to the "Tools" menu,
select "Folder Options" and then select the "View" tab. Make sure the box for "Show hidden files and
folders," is selected, then uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types." Also uncheck "Hide protected
system operating files" and all your folders should appear.

Exit out of the folder options. Back in Windows Explorer, on the left are all the folders that are
on your computer. On the right are all the files within those folders. Select a folder on the left,
and its contents are displayed on the right. Make sure to follow instructions carefully, you
need to be in the exact folder (check to make sure the address bar matches each step) and
delete files only on the right side.
More coming soon!
