Step 2: Ad-Aware | Adware/Spyware Removal Tool

Save the download to your computer. Remember where you save it! Install with default instead of custom if/where offered and open the program. Cancel out of the registration dialogue box. Like before, you will first check for updates. Then you will run your scan. This particular program does not have an Immunization feature.



Click on "Check for updates now," then click "Yes" in the dialogue box. A dialogue box will inform you of available updates, click "Download." Once it is at 100%, click "Ok."

Back at the main program screen, click "Scan Now." Select "Full Scan" if you have never scanned before. Typically you would choose "Smart Scan" for a faster scan, but it is a good idea to do a full scan the first time, and occasionally after that.



Again, the scan will take some time. Once complete, click on "Next." Check the boxes next to any of the items found, and click "Remove." Once the items are removed, click "Finish." Ad-aware will also ask you to allow it to run on a restart for any files it was unable to remove.



Click "Status" on the left to return to the main status screen. You are done for this month, as you browse websites some items will return. Close the program.

Although the first two steps found and removed your spyware, and some trojans, there is still a possibility of worms and viruses. The next step is to obtain an anti-virus program if you do not already have one.
