Step 6: ScanDisk Utility for Windows 95, 98, and Millennium
As you install and uninstall programs, files can get left behind that are not in
the Junk Files section that we already cleaned out. ScanDisk will check your file integrity
and convert "lost" fragments into files.
Go to "Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools" and select "ScanDisk." Select the (C:\)
drive, select "Standard" (if you select "Thorough" I'll see you next week), check "Automatically
fix errors."

Click on the "Advanced" button. In the "Lost File Fragments" box, make sure that the radio button
for "Convert to files" is selected and click "Ok." Back at the ScanDisk window, click "Start."

It does take a long time, however, if ScanDisk seems unable to finish (repeatedly starts over),
restart your computer. Exit all running programs by the system clock, including your anti-virus
(temporarily!). When it completes, it will display a summary. Click "Ok" and exit ScanDisk.
Now that we have checked for errors and converted file fragments, we are going to reorganize your
computer.
Take me to Step 7!
